In our first meeting he was very honest and upfront and clear about what we could do. He gave me the confidence to go forward and defend myself. It took a while because the ex didn't give up easily but he was always there with his calm no nonsense demeanor. Every time I spoke with him he was a calming presence and gave me hope.  Don't let that fool you though, when the time came he transformed into an intellectual bulldog and didn't back down. In the end, as he predicted I came out on top.
