I have no excuse for that. Your case didn't go to trial and was settled per your agreement.  Unfortunately, many clients have buyers' remorse after settling.  My job is to advocate, but if a client wants to take a deal, I become duty bound to counsel them about the pros and cons of the deal.  After counseling them on the pros and cons, I cannot ignore their lawful right to settle.  I work for my clients and not vice-versa.  The Texas Lawyers Creed, which I'm bound to follow, states that: \"I will endeavor to achieve my client’s lawful objectives in legal transactions and in litigation as quickly and economically as possible.\"  I literally have to let clients settle if that is what they want.<br><br>As for billing, I bill for work done, nothing more, and my contract stated in great detail that I bill by the hour, like virtually all family law lawyers.  Family law attorney bills can be very frustrating, because neither clients nor lawyers can predict how many billable hours will be expended.  There is way too many variables.
