First, I was in another office speaking to someone else over the phone and she overheard my private conversation and I jokingly said in jest “stupid Spanish speakers” to the person on the other side of the line.  After the lady finished her transaction in the front office, she felt compelled to come to my office to tell me that she was offended by what I said.  I told her that she wasn’t that offended because she waited to complete her transaction before she came to complain about my private conversation.  I told her that I don’t need “Karen’s” in my office, and I asked her to leave and never come back.  <br>I am a first-generation immigrant and I proudly display that I am bilingual.  My mother is a Spanish speaker and I have received multiple awards for my service to the Hispanic Community.
