I called asking for help disputing a PRN requirement I received as a registered clinical social work intern applicant. I specifically sought out George Indest after reading a Naples Daily News article in which he argued that historical mental health and substance abuse disclosures should not be used as barriers to licensure and that applicants should only be asked whether they currently have a condition that impairs their ability to practice. This was exactly the policy argument I was hoping to make regarding mental health profession licensing. I believed he was uniquely positioned to understand my case.\nI spoke to the intake clerk who initially seemed ready to dismiss me but perked up when I mentioned I had already engaged with the PRN process. She asked for a copy of the petition I had filed with the board after receiving notice that I could do so. I sent it to her and two hours later she called to say the managing attorney wanted to meet with me. I arranged to have $450 paid for the consultation.\nWhen the call connected he asked me what the problem was. I began to explain. He interrupted me to tell me he had appeared before the board thousands of times, then asked what my name was. He did not know who I was at that point in the call. I asked if he had read my petition. He had not. I asked him to please read it. Rather than helping me understand how to protect myself going forward, he proceeded to critique each decision I had made without acknowledging that several of his critiques were factually incorrect. He questioned where I had found PRN's governing documents in a condescending manner, as though finding publicly available information on PRN's own website was suspect. He told me the legal arguments in my petition were incorrectly placed when in fact Florida Administrative Code Rule 28-106.201 requires legal arguments in a petition for administrative hearing. He reconstructed the facts of my board hearing incorrectly and spoke over me when I attempted to correct him. He told me I had engaged with PRN too early when I had done so because a board member directed me to in the hearing room. His only substantive advice was that I should not have disclosed certain information on my application. One of the disclosures he told me I should not have made is explicitly listed as a required question in the board's own application materials. He was so convinced of his expertise that he advised me against complying with a mandatory disclosure requirement.
