Nevertheless, the $500 is a consultation fee that is charged for prospective employee clients so that we can sit down with you, read all of your documentation, employment agreements, handbooks when necessary, disciplinary claims, etc.; additionally, we ask you questions to get a clear understanding of your case.  This can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.  Only then can we advise you on the merits of the case.  Some firms may offer you an opportunity to sit down with a paralegal and take on your case without a full understanding of the facts of your case; however, that is not our firm structure.  When a client has an issue, they generally deal directly with a lawyer.  You can appreciate that we get dozens of calls from prospective clients that would like us to take 1-2 hours to discuss their case with them; if we do this, we would be out of business in no time.
