The attorney, Peter Woll, was dismissive, condescending, and rushed through our meeting. He told me to “use common sense” rather than addressing my concerns respectfully. When I inquired about penalties for late medical payments and wage loss benefits under Michigan law, he seemed unaware of key provisions in MCL 418.801 and incorrectly stated that any penalties would have to be court ordered. My understanding of MCL 418.801 was that it addresses these situations. For clarity, MCL 418.801(3) outlines a penalty for unpaid medical bills exceeding 30 days after certified notice of nonpayment (without dispute) as $50.00 or the amount of the bill due, whichever is less, per day of delay, up to a maximum of $1,500.00. Similarly, MCL 418.801(2) specifies a penalty for wage loss payments not made within 30 days of becoming due (without dispute) of $50.00 per day of delay, also capped at $1,500.00. His lack of understanding of these basic provisions of Michigan workers’ compensation law was shocking and unacceptable. I left feeling my concerns were dismissed, and the attorney failed to address my issues properly. I would not recommend this firm.
