While I wish otherwise, situations that demand aggressive and passionate advocacy are indiscriminate to us. If you find yourself in such a situation, questioning how you will overcome an institutional threat, you need someone who will fight for the love of the game. That person is Bobby Rumalla.\n\nI was facing charges that would have ruined my life permanently, as the law was not equipped to handle fringe factors. It was a felony and a misdemeanor. Other attorneys across the state assessed my odds as very slim, with mandatory time and other permanent consequences. They were all well-ranked and could handle the gravity of this case. Attorney Rumalla was also honest about my odds and wasn’t the most comforting person. However, he was realistic. Everyone else was focused on trying to comfort me, but Atty. Rumalla actually comforted me by letting me hear what I needed to hear. My conversations with him were crucial in helping me mentally prepare for the daunting task of advocating for my exoneration. Throughout the process, I received updates that frankly terrified me. My situation consumed me with the fear of not making it out. However, Attorney Rumalla was working diligently, and charges were dropped within a month. The kind of outcome for my charges was almost unheard of, with only a handful of cases with similar outcomes in the last decade.\n\nThere is one singular truth that I had to accept immediately if you want to make it out of an impossible situation: You cannot trust institutions investigating you to assume your innocence alone. A public defender would be overwhelmed with a case load and would likely only push for the most expedient solution. It’s a privilege to even pay for effective representation, but if you have it, listen closely.\n\nWhen choosing a criminal defense attorney, you must ask yourself, “Who can I trust with my life?” I sought someone intimately familiar with the local justice system’s workings and politics. Any big law firm might lack the respect of their peers in Marion County, which I recognized. I placed my faith in Bobby Rumalla.\n\nRegarding payment, he offered the most flexible plan among the few attorneys I consulted, which was a lifesaver. It restored my humanity and dignity, allowing me to try and live my life while awaiting the next court date. This was a significant matter for my family, and I can’t express my gratitude for Atty. Rumalla enough. In contrast, others quoted me $60–80K with a 60% upfront deposit, which was unreasonable.\n\nIn my opinion, Bobby Rumalla fought and exonerated me not because of his empathy for me, but because of the fundamental principles of the law and the rights of all of us to effective representation. You’ll likely read negative reviews from any lawyer (including him), but you must consider your case’s specifics. You need to understand the institution’s potential against you and how to counter it. You need an effective strategist.\n\nThis means facing unpleasant truths.\n\nIt’s not my desire (or anyone who left a review) to seek criminal defense representation. However, that reality doesn’t exist for everyone. You’ll need someone to help you navigate the hellish justice system. This exoneration didn’t resolve the other struggles I still face, nor is that Atty. Rumalla’s responsibility. But I still have a chance at life, free. I can’t emphasize enough that, regardless of my personal circumstances, an arrest without conviction makes it nearly impossible to secure a conviction, let alone incarceration. This allowed me to focus on myself, heal, and thrive.\n\nI never wish to be in this situation again, but if it happened to my loved ones, I’d call Bobby.
