Clients are always instructed to wait for their attorney to check in. This is an instruction I give to all of my clients because I have multiple cases on my docket and need time to deal with each accordingly. In every instance, a judge will not call a defendant without their attorney present unless they are under the impression that the person does not have an attorney. This means the client checked in against my instructions and then voluntarily stepped before the judge without informing them that they had retained an attorney.
