I am a male so I was already behind the 8 ball as almost every court in Michigan always gives advantage to the female.  (how is that inclusive or equal? write your congress person)  So I had to bring in some serious law power to make a solid attempt to get the custody I deserved.  My daughters mom lied about everything on her questionnaire and the court actually believed all of it, so it was an interesting and long up hill battle.  After this long duration Julia was able to get the agreement we set out to accomplish.  All along this journey Julia and her office staff were nothing less than exceptionally professional.  Her rates are comparable to other attorneys and her billing is very detailed.  There is nothing hidden about what occurs during this time, other than many people are NOT PAYING ATTENTION to understand what you will be paying for.  To say the least, there were no hidden charges and I was always billed for the time spent in court or for talking with Julia (or an attorney).  As with any Business, there are no freebies. Black & Associates, P.L.C., particularly with their communication and billing practices. After paying $250 for a one-hour consultation with Attorney Bechtel, I decided not to proceed with their services. However, I was surprised to receive an invoice for $431.25, despite never signing an agreement with them or authorizing any additional services.\n\nI disputed the charges, and while the firm adjusted the bill to $360, I still found it concerning that I was charged for interactions that were not clearly communicated as billable. Julia contacted me after I had already decided not to use their services to discuss my case further. During that call, I agreed to change a court date but ultimately chose to keep the original date without representation due to the potential risks. There was never any mention that discussing these changes would result in extra charges.\n\nWhat’s most frustrating is that I was referred to this firm by a previous client who had positive experiences, which makes this situation even more disappointing. I never visited their office or met them in person, yet it seems they charge for every word exchanged. It’s sad and unprofessional to see lawyers prioritizing profit over transparency and trust.\n\nI’d advise anyone considering this firm to confirm all fees and potential charges upfront. It appears perhaps difficult for you to be objective when you did not pay for services  and had to be sued for payment and ordered by a court to pay. Additionally, your memory is maybe foggy about this since we last represented you almost seven (7) years ago.  Your Judgment of Divorce was entered at that time and you were very happy with us at the time.  Julia represented you at trial and only Julia was at the trial.  Julia never had a \"junior law partner\" and the associate at the time did not represent you at trial where you did quite well.  No one tried to help anyone take your home! We went back and verified you were sent a bill each and every month during your case and there was never a protest of any charge received upon receipt of any bill and the bills received reductions.  You were definitely not overcharged and you received very detailed Billings.
